Social Ministry Committee

The Social Ministry Committee's mission is to care for the church family, the community and the world.

Supporting PADS

We support Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) by coordinating volunteers, raising funds, making SOCKS donations, and providing other monetary support. We also, of course, offer the church building itself as a shelter every Saturday night from 7pm to 7am throughout the PADS season.

Supporting the Palatine Community

We support the Palatine community through the following actions.

Food Pantry donations
Apple Tree project
Christmas Angels plus food certificates
Blood drive

Supporting Local Organizations

We support the following local organizations which assist clients in developing life skills.

Preservation of Human Dignity (PHD)
Women in Need Growing Stronger (WINGS)
Home of the Sparrow (temporary housing, education, and life skills for women)
The Bridge Youth and Family Services (youth advocacy)
Habitat for Humanity

Supporting the ELCA's Global Mission

We support the global mission of the ELCA through the following programs and organizations.

Bethel New Life Chicago
Bread for the World
CROP Walk
ELCA Missionaries Chris and Helen Repp in Russia
LSSI Prisoner Program
Lutheran Congregations for Career Development
Quarterly World Hunger Appeal

Other Opportunities

In addition to the above existing programs and activities, the Social Ministry Committee would like to begin a program in parish nursing. We also hope to increase our success at fund raising for church and community needs.
